Introduction

The China Calligraphers Association (CCA) is a professional people’s organization composed of calligraphers and individuals working in this field of all ethnic groups in China under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. CCA, a group member of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles (CFLAC), serves as a bridge that links the Party and the Chinese government with the calligraphy community, and is an important force for the prosperity of socialist literature and art undertakings as well as the building of a socialist country with advanced culture.

Since its establishment in May 1981, CCA has achieved significant progress in areas such as artistic creation, academic research, calligraphy education, external exchanges and organizational management. Currently, it’s home to 40 group members and over 15,000 individual members.

CCA has established 13 committees, including the Professional Ethics and Conduct Committee, Academic Committee, Seal Script Committee, Clerical Script Committee, Regular Script Committee, Running Script Committee, Cursive Script Committee, Seal Cutting Committee, Engraving, Hard-Pen Calligraphy, and Comprehensive Material Creation Committee, Calligraphy Education Committee, Calligraphy Criticism and Cultural Communication Committee, Women Calligraphers Committee, and New Literary and Art Groups Committee.

The administrative offices of the China Calligraphers Association include the General Office, Membershhip Affairs Office (Rights and Interests Protection Office), Exhibition Office, External Liaison Office, Theoretical Research Office, Personnel Office (Party Affairs Office), General Affairs Office, Large Events Office (Volunteer Service Office), Special Committee AffairsOffice, and Network Information Office. Its affiliated units include the CFLAC Calligraphy Art Center, Chinese Calligraphy Publishing & Media Co., Ltd. (Calligraphy Publishing House Co., Ltd., Chinese Calligraphy Newspaper, and Chinese Calligraphy magazine), the CCA Calligraphy Training Center, the CCA Calligraphy Examination Center, and the CCA Calligraphy Exhibition Center.

The main tasks of the China Calligraphers Association are: To implement the Party’s literary and artistic guidelines, policies, and principles, adhere to the“Two Serves”direction (Literature and Art Undertakings should serve the people and serve socialism) and the“Double Hundred”policy (Let a hundred flowers bloom and a hundred schools of thought contend.), inherit and promote the tradition of Chinese calligraphy and art, uphold a people-centered orientation of creation, deeply engage with life, take root in the people, and strive to improve the level of calligraphy art; Actively engage in communication, coordination, service, and professional guidance for members, strive to improve the ideological and moral qualities, cultural cultivation, and professional skills of calligraphers and individuals working in this field in accordance with the requirements of being virtuous in both morality and professional area, And continuously strengthen services, management, and self-regulation within the industry. Carry out thematic activities around the key work of the Party and the State; Hold calligraphy exhibitions, organize calligraphy creation and selections, and carry out research and academic exchanges on calligraphy theory; Conduct calligraphy education and training to promote the popularization of calligraphy; Protect the works and legitimate rights and interests of calligraphers in accordance with the law; Actively develop the cultural industry and strive to enhance the capacity for sustainable development; Broadly unite calligraphers and calligraphy enthusiasts, value and support mass calligraphy activities, continuously develop and strengthen the cause of calligraphy, and effectively serve as the bond and bridge between the Party and government and calligraphers, individuals working in this field, as well as calligraphy enthusiasts.

CCA actively carries out external exchanges, strengthens connections with the calligraphy communities in China’s Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan regions, and in various countries, and enhances friendly cooperation with international peers. CCA hopes to make further contributions to the prosperity of the Chinese calligraphy art, the deepening of overseas friendship, and the promotion of world cultures and world peace.
